Valemi Living Review: BohoChic Apt.-TopLocation-Kitchen-Parking-Balcony
This is my personal opinion and review of the "Valemi Living" property: Valemi: BohoChic Apt.-TopLocation-Kitchen-Parking-Balcony. Located in the small town about an hour west of Munich: Landsberg Am Lech, Germany.
Most vacation rental hosts make or break the experience. How they interact with you, how honest they are in the property description, how they deal with issues, and whether they are honest individuals.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, the host failed to live up to any of these standards. I do not recommend this property to my fellow travelers, and I urge them to explore other options in the Landsberg Am Lech and southern Germany region. I strongly encourage visitors that are determined to rent this property to conduct further research on the web regarding "Valemi Living".
For travelers interested in a lengthy read, here is a detailed account of my personal experience:
The host posted a misleading description of the property. His listing clearly lists a safe onsite parking space as one of the amenities. Safe onsite parking was a critical element that I used as I searched for a rental on the Airbnb site as my family has specific medical needs that require close parking being available. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the property, I was shocked to learn that the parking spot that is assigned to the property (spot 55) has barriers on both sides of the vehicle (a wall and a recently installed metal barrier) and does not meet common EU standards for such a situation (NF P91-120 among others). Any parking spot that is restricted on one or both sides MUST have additional space to allow for doors to open – at least on the driver side -- in this case there was none; I would have had to exit the car through the trunk after parking.
Further, the host was already aware of the issues caused by the small size of the parking spot in the past (damage to neighboring vehicles etc.). The host did not specify any dimensions to the parking spot, nor did he specify any restrictions or limitations to the space in the property description. (The host has since added parking dimensions to the property description following my complaint. Be advised that the parking spot is still small for a majority of modern vehicles.) I had no parking issues at any other location throughout my trip (city center parking garages, government buildings, etc.).
I inquired with the host to see if parking just outside the apartment would be an option and was advised that it was not -- that I could be fined or towed. The host suggested I explore paid parking lots in the area. At this point, I indicated that I would need a refund for my rental as this was not what I paid for, and I had a specific requirement for onsite parking. I did not hear back from the host for 5 days. Nothing. No alternatives, No options. Nothing. When the host did respond it was to tell me I would not be getting my refund. I was in the apartment for approximately 15 minutes total before leaving.
The host failed to disclose shortcomings to the property that he was aware of. I was forced to locate last minute accommodations for the night and another property for the remainder of my stay. Locate another host you can trust. There are many options nearby.
As for the building, I was only in it for approximately 15 minutes as I had no place to park my car. There were piles of boxes/trash/recycling near the building entrance as well as a scattered group of old children’s toys and bikes. The stairwell had a very strong odor of cigarette smoke, and I encountered two dogs off leash inside the building. There was trash and shoes left outside the other apartments and graffiti in the area around the building -- you will notice some on the sign and utility boxes as you drive into the entrance. There is an old, possibly broken down, blue van in the parking lot that looks like it hasn't moved in a long while. The elevator is small and stops on landings between floors so you will need to climb some stairs in the building. The rooms seemed fairly clean if a bit worn.
The neighborhood seemed alright. Like the room it was a bit worn down and has seen better days (I mentioned the graffiti and garbage above). Standard low-rise apartment building area. A train line runs parallel to the west edge of the building. Landsberg prison is only 700 meters away.
Happy travels.
